The PTSD River Cure
An editorial re-design utilizing a complex grid and icon system.
This editorial piece was designed using a six-column grid system to integrate a large body of text, photography, captions, illustration, and iconography. An icon system of fly fishing flies was developed to take the place of drop caps—I like to call them Fly-cons. Featuring the photography of Corey Arnold and writing of Patrick Symmes, this article tells the story of a Navy veteran who has transformed his struggles with PTSD by finding a "cure" on Oregon's Willamette River. This is where he first learned to fly fish and now teaches at-risk children the sport on that same river, while running a fly shop in Portland.
